Leaders of Tomorrow Program

Allow yourself a chance to pass along your knowledge to the next generation of professionals through our Leaders of Tomorrow program. For over a decade, this successful program has provided a positive influence to average high school students who have exhibited leadership potential, but require additional motivational factors in their lives to achieve excellence. Our Local mentoring opportunities include tutoring, leading workshops, chaperoning students on college tours and to the NBMBAA Annual Conference, and administering scholarship programs for college bound students. We are accepting both new students and mentors to the program. Contact the chairperson Allison Quick at info@sfmba.com for more information.

Scholarship Program

Each year the South Florida Chapter awards scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate minority students studying business administration. Applicants must be full-time students who are permanent residents of Florida. Scholarship awards are a minimum of $1,000 to the undergraduate and $1,500 to the graduate student awardees. One of our Scholarships is named in memory of Jacki Tuckfield, who was a member. The process usually begins in late January with applications due in April. The criteria include grades, extra curricular activities, and an essay – with an optional interview. Chapter members may apply if they meet the criteria.

Workshops/Seminars

The South Florida Chapter conducts seminars and workshops aimed at the development of the business professional. Topics presented in the past include interviewing skills, resume-writing, decision-making and time management. Over the current two year cycle, the focus of professional development has been around leadership lessons (presented by leaders in the community) and a leadership development series. A description of both of these is as follows

Membership

Membership is the primary source and our primary customer in serving our Chapter mission to lead in the creation of economic and intellectual wealth for the South Florida community. The Membership committee enhances membership growth.

Networking Committee

The Networking committee creates opportunities and an atmosphere in which members can get acquainted with each other, and our corporate partners, both on a business and a social level. It also assists members seeking employment via email referrals as well as direct recommendations.

Communications

The South Florida Chapter understands the benefits of communications. The Newsletter is one of the effective vehicles the Chapter uses to communicate information to our members, corporate partners, potential members, potential partners and the entire community. You are invited to submit an article to the newsletter committee.

Golf Classic

The South Florida Chapter conducts an annual golf tournament to support our Scholarships and Leaders of Tomorrow youth program. Please join us each year in April at the Weston Hills Country Club for a round of golf and networking.
